She takes on anyone who rips off Arizonans — and she doesn't back down. 

Kris Mayes is one of Arizona’s strongest consumer advocates and an attorney who has distinguished herself as a fighter for families in a lifetime of public service. 

She's the second woman and first mom to serve as Arizona's chief law enforcement officer and chief attorney. Born and raised on a tree farm in Prescott, Kris Mayes attended Arizona public schools with her brother and sister. Her mom was a teacher and her dad worked as a pharmacist. 

As Attorney General, Kris Mayes has prioritized protecting Arizona consumers, stopping scammers, fighting the Fentanyl crisis and the Mexican drug cartels, and combatting elder abuse and fraud. She's fiercely gone after greedy corporations and monopolies unfairly and illegally raising prices. She has been a fighter for groundwater protections and for Arizona's future. 

Kris Mayes previously served as a Republican statewide elected official on the Arizona Corporation Commission. As a commissioner and Chair, her leadership helped create tens of thousands of high-paying jobs, saved Arizona consumers billions of dollars, and required utilities to produce more clean and efficient energy — including solar and wind. She also worked to preserve Arizona’s water resources. 

Prior to becoming the Arizona Attorney General, Mayes worked as a professor at ASU’s School of Global Sustainability and taught a course on energy law for the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU. She also worked as a political reporter in Arizona. She holds a degree in political science and journalism at Arizona State University, a Masters of Public Administration from Columbia University, and her law degree from ASU. 

Kris Mayes is both humbled and honored to serve as Arizona’s 27th Attorney General. She is also extremely proud to be Hattie's mom. She looks forward to continuing working on behalf of Arizonans as the top law enforcement officer and consumer protector in the state.
